LDC Students Tipped On Appeals

A total of 23 Bar course students from Law Development Centre (LDC) visited the Criminal Division of the High Court to get tips on Appeals.

The team was led by Ms Susan Nabirye, Senior Legal Officer and Ms Teddy Namugga, Legal Officer (LDC).They were received by HW Festo Nsenga, Deputy Registrar Criminal Division and HW Timothy Lumunye, Personal Assistant to the Chief Registrar. 

Their areas of focus were; how to peruse the record of proceedings and judgment, identification and formulation of grounds of appeal, drafting notice and memorandum of appeal, institution of appeals, and how they are conducted. 

Others were applications for bail pending appeal, presentation of appeals, powers and duties of the first and second appellate courts, among others.

HW Nsenga addressed the students on issues of how to institute appeals in the High Court, bail pending appeal, powers and duties of the first Appellate Court, among others. 

Some of the areas covered by HW Lumunye were jurisdictions of the High Court, and compensation orders. He also offered practical aspects of how appeals are handled.

The team was later taken on a guided tour around Court premises and the Judiciary Headquarters at large.
